World Scholar's Cup

Six dedicated pupils competed in the Middle East round of the World Scholar's Cup over the weekend in the hope of qualifying for the global final in Bangkok at the end of June. Congratulations to Taher Kathawala, Bilkis Akther, Forest Hopps, Souad Ageel, Rahil Ahmed and Deepishwar Mangat for all qualifying!

They debated against three other teams on thought-provoking motions such as 'Human cloning should be used to aid reproduction' and 'Life is beautiful.' After this, they all wrote persuasive essays and then took an exam on the materials that they've been studying for the past few months. Day 2 was the 'Scholar's Bowl' which is an interactive quiz round.

Not only did one team make the top 10, but some pupils received special individual and team awards. Taher Kathawala picked up medals for his performance in the writing challenge and the exam. In addition, Taher, Bilkis and Forest were awarded medals for their team performance in the writing challenge and a trophy for being the 2nd place 'rookie team.'

Well done to all six pupils. Bangkok, here we come!
